Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
