Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
