NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
