No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
