Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amt.. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of before.
