Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
