No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
