No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
