Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he enjoyed participating in various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play extensive hours and do not win most times. He made some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He theorized he could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on poker.
The definite advancement in his game began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often challenge each other. He had access into several of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking skills. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the best female players the poker arena has ever seen. He relocated to Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
