Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
